getting ready

Hi, my name's Will Newitt and welcome to my blog.If all goes to plan, in a weeks time I should find myself at Lands End -far South West of England, facing the rising sun and contemplating a cycle ride of 1000+ miles through the land of my birth to John O'Groats- right up the top of bonnie Scotland.

These places represent the furthest two points on a map of mainland Britain and a trip between the two has long been a dream of mine. It's partly for the challenge but also because of the gradual realisation that, despite much foreign travel, there's still a land of great beauty and variety that I hardly know- and it's right under my feet!

Many people have asked me if I plan to do this for charity. There are indeed many great organisations crying out for funding and I would not wish to undermine that but I've decided that, through this blog,I'd like to invite people to give charitably through their words and actions.
By this I mean, considering what positive personal shifts we can make in our every day living to make our lives an outward expression of what is really true and for the good.

So throughout the coming blogs, as well as an account of my adventures, you'll find some suggestions for ways in which we can all live a little more sustainably and happily with the earth and our fellow beings. Some of these thoughts are floating around my head right now but I want it to mostly be a spontaneously arising project with insights and ideas that are inspired by my experiences on the road and the people I connect with along the way.

Comments and debate on any subject will be very welcome (just click on the 'comments' link at the bottom of this page) but my intention throughout will be merely to offer suggestions and thoughts as they arise (I have too many imperfections to moralise or preach). It can then be up to you consider your own opinion, and if you happen to read something which you agree with and where you can see an opportunity for positive change, then to see what steps you can take in that direction.

So, hope you can join me on the journey from time to time to check I'm still alive. Once I'm on the road, I will update this once or twice a week with stories and pedal powered ponderings- supplemented with the occasional text message when there's no computer.

Oh and there will be some sweeeet pictures too!

Stay tuned!
